Power Meter Technics is a South African metering engineering company with more than three decades of experience in electricity measurement. We develop our own metering software, supply and support metering systems, acquire and manage meter data at scale, and operate a SANAS-accredited calibration laboratory. From the meter in the field to the data used for billing, analysis and reporting, our focus has always been the same: accurate measurement and trustworthy data.

From measurement to meaningful information
Most metering companies specialise in one area: hardware, software, meter reading or calibration. PMT brings all four together.
We design and supply electricity meters, develop our own meter data management software, operate the systems that collect and process the readings, and run a SANAS-accredited calibration laboratory.
This gives us an understanding of the entire measurement process, from the electricity passing through a meter to the information used for billing, energy management and reporting.
Our Meteringonline (MOL) platform has been developed in-house since 1998 and now processes half-hourly data from more than 109,000 meters. The engineering expertise behind MOL extends beyond software development to the meters themselves, their installation, calibration and the interpretation of the data they produce.

Metering companies rarely develop billing software. Software companies rarely understand metrology.
MOL was developed by metering engineers, not by a software company treating metering as an afterthought.
That difference matters. A phasor diagram can identify a reversed CT before it becomes a billing dispute. A summated account must calculate diversified maximum demand correctly. A billing system must handle tariff changes that occur partway through a billing cycle.
These are not simply software problems involving electricity. They are metering problems that require a thorough understanding of electrical measurement, tariffs and billing. That understanding is built into MOL.

MOL reads any major meter, but PMT also designs its own range. Knowing exactly how an instrument behaves determines whether its data can be billed on without dispute. Every meter we supply is calibrated in our own SANAS-accredited laboratory before it leaves us.

Why the data can be trusted
We calibrate the meters ourselves, in our own accredited laboratory.
Billing is only as good as the measurements underneath it. PMT has held SANAS accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 since 1997, for calibration on site as well as in the laboratory. Our forensic work, where a utility is investigating tampering, is separate from that accreditation but depends on it.
