Privacy notice
This notice explains what happens to personal information when you use pmt.co.za. It is written to be read rather than to be legally impenetrable.
Last updated 18 July 2026.
Who is responsible
Power Meter Technics (Pty) Ltd, registration 1997/012164/07, of 23 Silverstone Crescent, Kyalami Business Park, Midrand 1685, South Africa. We are the responsible party for the personal information described here, in the sense the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) uses the term.
Our Information Officer can be reached at info@pmt.co.za, or on +27 (11) 466 1632.
What we collect
- What you type into the contact form
- Your name, email address, company, phone number, the topic you pick and your message. It is emailed to us and nothing else is done with it. It is not added to a mailing list.
- Ordinary web server logs
- Our web server records the pages requested, the time, your browser's user-agent string and your IP address — the same records almost every web server on the internet keeps. We read them in aggregate to see which pages are used.
- A hashed record of your IP, briefly, if you use the form
- To stop the contact form being used to send bulk mail, we count recent submissions per visitor. What is stored is a SHA-256 hash of your IP address, not the address itself, and it is discarded after an hour.
What we deliberately do not do
This website is built to work without collecting anything it does not need. That is a design decision, and it is worth stating precisely:
- No cookies. This site sets none at all.
- No analytics JavaScript. Nothing about your visit is sent to a third party as you browse.
- No advertising, tracking pixels, or social media buttons.
- No content delivery network. Fonts, images and stylesheets are served from our own server, so no other company sees your requests.
- No profiling, and no automated decision-making about you.
- Nothing is sold, rented or shared for marketing.
Our visitor statistics are produced by analysing our own server logs on our own server. Nothing about your visit leaves our infrastructure.
Why we are allowed to hold it
If you send us an enquiry, we process it because you asked us to make contact, and because we have a legitimate interest in answering. Server logs are kept because we have a legitimate interest in running a secure, working website. We do not rely on consent for either, so there is nothing for you to opt out of — but you can ask us to delete what we hold at any time.
How long we keep it
Enquiries are kept for as long as we need them to deal with your query and any business that follows from it, and then deleted. Server logs are rotated and discarded in the ordinary course. The hashed submission counter used by the contact form is discarded after an hour.
Where it goes
Nowhere. This website is hosted on PMT's own infrastructure in South Africa, and the enquiry you send arrives as an email in a PMT mailbox. We do not transfer personal information from this website to any other country or company.
If you are an existing customer, the metering data we process for you is governed by your contract with us, not by this notice.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy.
- Ask us to correct or delete it.
- Object to us processing it.
- Complain to the Information Regulator if you think we have handled it badly.
To exercise any of these, email info@pmt.co.za. The Information Regulator can be reached at inforegulator.org.za.
Changes
If we change how this website handles personal information, we will change this page and move the date at the top. There is no mailing list to notify, because we do not keep one.
